The inverter comes with a 10 year product and performance warranty and weighs 17 kg. They also have no screen on the front, meaning less things to go wrong. The inverter comes in 2 different sizes, 5.0 and 6.0 kW. Huawei also make a SUN2000KTL – M0, and from what I can tell the main difference is that they are capable of having a much larger over-sizing of solar panels (as long as you install a battery at the same time), which could be very useful if you are buying 30 kWh of batteries, BUT this inverter (M0) does only come with a 5 year warranty.

This inverter is compatible with the their own Huawei Smart ESS Battery (Luna2000 ). The Luna2000 has a 100% depth of discharge, they are produced in 5 kWh sizes and you can install between 1-3 in a stack, and parallel 2 stacks together, so a total capacity of 30 kWh is achievable.

Pros

PRO – The worlds largest inverter company

PRO -Australian Office

PRO – Inverters are all Hybrids, meaning you can add a battery later without changing hardware.

PRO – They manufacture all components themselves.

PRO – No internal fan, meaning that operate in a whisper quiet fashion.

PRO – Huawei have produced their own optimiser, like SolarEdge or Tigo for instance.

PRO – FusionSolar app – allows you to see real time energy flow, variety of modes, but also if you fit the Huawei optimiser, it has panel-level performance management.

Cons

CON – Can be quite tricky to install and we’ve noticed installers having a few issues with commissioning them.

CON – Do not install the SUN2000 outdoors in salt areas because it will be corroded there and may cause fire. A salt area refers to the region within 500 meters from the coast or prone to sea breeze. The regions prone to sea breeze vary depending on weather conditions (such as typhoons and monsoons) or terrains (such as dams and hills). (source – Huawei SUN2000 (3KTL-10KTL)-M1 User Manual) – so seeing that a lot of Australian homes are within 500m of the coast, does this extract from the user manual mean you won’t be able to claim a warranty issue, should you live within 500m of the coast

Our Thoughts

A quality product, manufactured by a massive Chinese company with a strong and long trading history. They produce and sell more inverters each year than any other company. Huawei really know a thing or two when it comes down to electronics.

The Australian office allows for warranty issues to be catered for, even if your installation company disappears.

They will be a good choice by anyone, that will last the test of time and produce power for years to come. The fact that they come as ‘Hybrid” as standard, is a lovely little touch. Huawei also have the FusionSolar Smart PV Management System, which is an app/web portal where you can monitor the performance of your solar system from, you can learn more about it here.

Yes, they have been known to be a little tricky to install, and yes, the wording of the manuals saying they can’t be installed within 500m of the ocean is a concern, BUT we have been in the game a long time, and been involved with installations within 500m of the ocean that have had some issues, and Huawei were brilliant, and replaced without an issue.

We would definitely install them in our own house or business.
